General Guidelines for
Junior & Senior Education Scholarships
1-
Auditions
Scholarship
Auditions will be held in the spring, after the Spring Festival. On
the rare occasion that a student may be unable to be present for the
audition, a videotaped audition may be submitted. Permission to do
so will be a t the discretion of the scholarship chairman and
assistant and will be determined on a case by case basis. Videotaped
auditions must be made: (1) within the week prior to the actual
audition; (2) in the presence of the scholarship chairman or
assistant; (3) submitted from the first video taping (the student
may not tape more than one performance and choose the best to
submit); and (4) the student is responsible for furnishing the
videotape and camera.
2-
Entries
(See
entrance requirements listed in Article XI of the UVMTA
Constitution.) It is prohibited for teachers to enter students of
another teacher who is not a club member.
3-
Registration
A
blank registration form will be sent to all active members and
active student members of UVMTA with the Spring Festival Packet.
Individual teachers will be responsible for copying the forms and
distributing them to each of their students interested in
auditioning.
The
registration fee for the Junior Music Scholarship is $12.00 and
$15.00 for the Senior Scholarship. This fee is not refundable or
transferable and is subject to change. Payment is to be made to
UVMTA and sent to the current Scholarship Chairman. A student may
have only one entry.
4-
Awards
As
many as twenty scholarships may be awarded. Each grade will be
judged separately. The number of total scholarships and the monetary
amounts will be determined by the Scholarship Committee and will be
dependent on the number of applicants and on the availability of
funds. Generally, there will be three winners from each grade with
the option of additional honorable mention awards, with award
amounts ranging from $50-$500.
5-
Concerts/Performances
Scholarship
winners may be asked to perform at UVMTA-sponsored concerts as well
as at member-sponsored recitals for the intent to motivate and
encourage developing musicians in the upper valley.
