UVMTA Scholarship Program

Junior Scholarships Scholarships are available to all students taking from UVMTA members who are in grades 8-11 at the time of auditions, and may be used toward a summer music camp, private music lessons, or music instructional materials. As many as twenty scholarships may be awarded. Each grade level will be judged separately. Three winners from each grade with up to two Honorable Mentions may be awarded at the discretion of the judges.

Senior Scholarships The Senior Scholarship is available to all students taking from UVMTA members who are high school seniors at the time of auditions. The scholarship may be used toward tuition at college or university of choice or toward private music instruction for college credit. A minimum of first, second, and third places are awarded.

Audition Requirements

  • Student must be playing at least pre-advanced level music.
  • Student must have participated in at least three UVMTA Junior Music Festivals (not necessarily consecutively)
  • Student's teacher must be an Active Member or Active Student Member of UVMTA
  • Student must perform two memorized, original pieces (no arrangements) by different composers of contrasting styles or periods. Concertos (except piano concertos) are accepted with the same requirements as the Junior Music Festival. (Memorization for organ is not required.)
  • Time limits range from 6 to 10 minutes as shown below.
  • A scholarship winner may not audition for a subsequent UVMTA scholarship by performing the same selections with which he/she previously won. Subsequent solos must be different repertoire.
