General Guidelines for Junior Music Festival
1.
Membership
A
teacher must be an active member of UVMTA. This requires a teacher
to:
1-
Pay club dues in order to be eligible to enter students.
2-
Attend at least two workshops per year.
The
dues are payable by Sept. 30th, after which a late fee of $5.00 will
be assessed for continuing members. Dues must be in by September
30th
to participate in Fall Festival. Dues must be paid by February 1st
to enter Spring Festival.
2.
Door Monitoring
To
enter students in Festival, teachers must be willing to door monitor
their own students. A parent or friend may fill in to represent the
teacher.
3.
Festivals
We
will have two festivals per year; one in Fall and one in Spring.
4.
Entries
Students
may have two entries per year in Festival, one in Fall and one in
Spring. Students should have studied for a minimum of six months
before participating in a festival for the first time. Students may
enter on only one instrument each festival. Teachers should be aware
if a student plays another instrument. Solos, concertos, or duets
will be accepted at either festival.
1-
An Ensemble Entry is comprised of one concerto movement (Jr. or Sr.
or two duets. The duets are to be performed by students only. One
duet entry must be an original piece of good musical quality.
2-
A Solo Entry is comprised of two pieces of original form,
contrasting style, and by different composers. It is suggested that
the two composers be from different musical eras. Even beginners
should have pieces that include dynamics and different rhythm
patterns. If one piece is spirited, the other should be slower and
expressive. (The only exceptions to the above are: the contrasting
two movements of a Sonata/Sonatina are accepted as one entry, and
one duet may be an arrangement.)
Solo
entries are acceptable for both Fall and Spring, but we encourage
students to also have ensemble experiences at Festival.
5.
Memorization
All
entries are to be memorized. New pieces should be learned each year.
Students cannot repeat the same pieces from year to year. Both
pieces must be played in order for points to be awarded. Zero points
will be given for playing only one piece.
6.
Registration
Fee
The
registration fee for each entry is $6.50. The registration fee for
the Alternate night is $13.00. These fee are not refundable or
transferable. There will be no late registrations accepted. Payment
is to be made to "Junior Music Festival" and sent to the current
Festival Chairman. (Club dues are sent separately to the club
treasurer.)
It
is not appropriate for teachers to enter students of another teacher
who is not a club member.
7.
Awards
Awards
must be ordered by February 1st
to be received at May festival. Students are graded on a total of
100 points per entry. Awards are received as follows:
